As I tucked my daughter into bed last night, she said… “Mom, are you stressed?”
How did she know?
Was she asking because we couldn’t find her snow boots and I was stomping around the house looking for them?
Was it my harsh tone of voice at dinner when she wouldn’t focus on eating and I had to threaten a grounding?
Was it the nasty glance I gave her when she kept talking to me while I was trying to answer a work email?
Um… probably.
This wasn’t my finest mommy-moment.
Truth is – I was stressed.
I’d been going 90-to-nothing the past few days trying to meet the expectations of others. I was facing countless deadlines that were asking for on-demand creativity. My husband was traveling so I was on parenting double-duty.
And apparently, my stress was seeping out and on to my kids.
That ISN’T the kind of mom I want to be.
You see… being stressed is sometimes a part of life, but letting it affect those you love doesn’t have to be. It’s a choice we have. A choice we make.
But what happened next melted that stress away.
My sweet almost 9-year-old said,
“Mom, can I pray for you?
I know God will help you.”
With tears in my eyes, she laid her hands on me and brought me before the throne. She prayed the most precious prayer asking God to help me.
Sara was faithfully doing what God calls us to do.
“Throw all your anxiety onto Him, because He cares about you.” (1 Peter 5:7)
She went straight to the Source. To the One who gives us the grace and strength we need to navigate through our struggles. The Fixer who offers to faithfully work out our worries for us.
Smart kid.
Sisters, what is causing you stress right now?
- Are you anxious about family dynamics with the holidays approaching?
- Do you have debt that’s continuing to pile up with no relief in sight?
- Are there childhood issues beginning to surface, causing problems in your marriage?
- Do you wonder how anyone can understand or fix the problems you are facing?
- Are there health issues that are taking a turn for the worse?
Offer all your burdens… stresses… worries… concerns… issues… struggles… doubts… to God. He really does care about you.
Sisters, don’t blow past that simple statement.
It’s a powerful proposal.
Pray this…
“Father, I need Your help! You tell me in Your Word to give You my burdens, and so I am doing that. I am giving You my worry about _________. I am struggling to sort it all out. It’s too big for me to fix. Will You be bigger? Will You step in and light the path to restoration? I need You, because I cannot do this alone. Thank You for Your offer. I humbly accept. I love You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.”
Oh how He loves you.
And because of that love, God is presenting you with this priceless invitation.
An invitation few will offer… and an offer no one else can fulfill.
It’s an invitation for Divine intervention.
