I love to mow our lawn.
Oddly… I enjoy yard work in the heat of the day, sweating like crazy and listening to my iPod. While I have a wide variety of music on it, I tend to listen to my “Jesus music” and use this time to worship. From Casting Crowns to Third Day to Downhere… I sing loudly with pure joy!
With the lawn mower being so loud, I assumed that I could sing full voice and be completely under the cover of the engine. So I used that time to release my inner Hanna Montana.
Not a good idea.
Last weekend… while I was mowing the front yard and my husband was pulling weeds in the back yard… he knew exactly what song I was listening to. He (gulp) was able to hear my every word. We may have to move.
While I am a speaker and enjoy sharing God’s redemptive power in my life, I do not sing about it. At least not in public. I know the words to most songs… I have a good beat… but I tend to hit different notes than the ones the professionals do.
But you know what… Psalm 100:1-2 tells us to “Shout for joy to the LORD, all the earth. Worship the LORD with gladness; come before him with joyful songs.”
There are many different ways we can worship. It can be quiet time reading the Bible and meditating on scripture. It can be discussing a Bible study with a group of friends. Or it can be singing to God while mowing the lawn.
Whichever way works for you… shout, worship and come before Him.
Love it! Keep singing!
I will have to stop by and get you on U-Tube! That would be hilarious! You keep singing to the Lord, girlfriend! He loves it!
