Sometimes I want what she has.
~ I want to be able to wear those cute clothes… and actually look cute in them, too.
~ I want God to heal me from my mess as quickly as He did for her.
~ I want her marriage because it looks so much easier than mine.
~ I want to be included in that group.
~ I want my kids to excel in sports and grades like hers do.
~ I want to be as holy as she is, always walking by faith.
~ I want a writing and speaking ministry like she has.
~ I want her life because it looks so perfect.
Am I speaking the truth?
I can so easily look at someone else and lust for what they have. You probably can, too. As women, it’s a common tangle that weaves us together—and it can drive us crazy.
Jealousy’s voice is quick to remind us that who we are and what we have isn’t good enough. How often do you look right past what you have to what she has… and feel inferior?
Here’s the problem.
When you listen to the Enemy’s voice that tells you she’s better, you forget all the ways God has blessed you. So what if you silenced jealousy with gratitude? It might look like this:
~ I may not look as cute as she does in a pair of jeans, but I have a husband that’s crazy about me.
~ My home might not be as big and fancy as hers is, but I’m thankful we aren’t strapped financially anymore.
~ Our son may not be on the football travel team like hers, but I love having more time together as a family.
~ My daughter didn’t make the honor roll like hers did, but I appreciate what a dedicated student she is becoming.
~ My husband doesn’t make the amount of money hers does, but we always have just what we need to make ends meet.
Be careful to not become so preoccupied with getting, that you aren’t grateful for God’s giving.
But girls, can I get in your business a little more?
What if we took it one step further and actually thanked God for what He has given her? You know, that thang she has that you don’t? The thang you believe might make your life better, but in reality never could?
Yeah, that thang.
Well listen to this advice in Proverbs 14:30… “A peaceful mind gives life to the body, but jealousy rots the bones.”
Don’t let your bones rot. 🙂
The next time that green-eyed monster rears its ugly head, why not:
1. Tell God what you’re grateful for, and then
2. Thank God for blessing her with the thang.
Let’s practice here. In the comment section below, share a way God has blessed you… and then share your gratitude for how God has blessed her.
Just keepin’ it real,
Carey
