I’m a visual learner.
Because of that, when I get a mental picture of something in my head I’m able to learn quicker and easier… and it usually sticks with me longer.
I wonder if you’re the same way. Yes? Cool… I have quite a visual to share with you then.
As Wayne and I were struggling early in our marriage, a counselor gave me this image that has never left my mind. He said, “The Enemy’s objective is to destroy you guys, so realize that he is continually walking the perimeter of your marriage looking for a way to get in.“
Wow. That creeps me out even now. And makes me mad.
As I chewed on that comment for a while, it resonated in my spirit. I could see, in my mind’s eye, Satan literally walking around the borders of my marriage, trying to find the weak points so he could break through… and destroy it. At that point in our marriage, however, there were so many weak points he hardly had to walk far to find one.
But God faithfully healed our marriage. I actually really like Wayne these days. 🙂
You know what though? When I feel attacked by the Enemy, that visual of him walking the perimeter of my situation always comes back to mind. But now, I remember how God fits in.
Psalm 94:22 shows us that God provides us a way to trip up the Enemy’s plan. It reads: “But the LORD has become my fortress, and my God the rock in whom I take refuge.”
This scripture assures me that since I am a Christ-follower, God is now my fortress. I have access to His protective, rock-hard walls in every area of my life… 24/7/365.
And believe me… there is nothing stronger than God as your fortress and rock.
You see, He strengthens our flimsy, ineffective, human attempts at creating our own safety perimeters by reinforcing them… with Him.
God is our Divine protector.
Friends, where do you need Him to be your fortress today?
- In your marriage where there is so much pain and heartbreak?
- In your parenting skills because you are always at the end of your rope?
- In some other significant relationship where tension is running high?
- In your attitude which is poisoning your entire life?
- With some addiction that you can’t seem to overcome?
- In staying with that resolution that is getting harder and hard to keep?
- In facing a mountain of opposition that looks impossible to beat?
Ask God to walk the perimeter of your fear. Your struggle. Your thought-life. Your exhaustion. Your relationships.
Tell God that you need Him to become your strong fortress. Confess to Him that you can’t do it yourself any longer. Ask Him to protect those things failing under your own strength.
Let Him fight for you. Let Him protect you. Let Him to walk the perimeter of your situation.
You see, when God is the fortress in your life and the Enemy sees that divine protection… he runs away with his pitchfork tucked between his legs.

I am so easy to accept defeat!!! Thank you for reminding me that I have God to walk the perimeter with and FOR me. One or the other is walking it (either God or the enemies workers)! We can be so aware of the big attacks but so comfortable with the small ones. I loved your counselors reminder that Satan will look for ANY way to get it. It doesn’t have to be a grand opening a small one will do! Not battling today – thank you for calling me out 🙂

Jeanelle, you’re so right. Someone is always walking the perimeter of our situation. Will we allow God to be the guard, or will we let the Enemy take position? That is the question we have to ask daily… we need to check who is walking our perimeter.

Mel, thank you! It really is a choice, yes? We get to chose who walks our perimeters… 🙂 Blessings friend!
