My friends gave me a SWORD for my birthday.
Yes… an actual sword.
It has a nice weight to it.
You can see some imperfections.
While I know it is new, it looks battle-worn. Like it’s fought the good fight before.
On the sheath is engraved the words “Jehovah’s Warrior.” And on the blade itself, they had this verse impressed:
“For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” (Hebrews 4:12)
My sweet husband hung it on the wall so strategically. I can see it when I lay down in bed, and I can see it when I sit in my chair to write.
I look at it all the time. I touch it when I walk by. I grin when I think about it.
I. Love. It.
Seriously… I adore this gift.
Why?
Because it’s a tangible reminder of how God made me… and it speaks to my earthly purpose for the Kingdom.
That purpose? Battling the Enemy’s lies.
Sometimes the battle is bloody and messy.
Sometimes it’s fought on my knees crying out to God.
At times, I fight with radical praise.
And other times, through rest and reading His Word.
Regardless, it’s the battlefield and I love it.
It’s how God has fashioned… me.
Just this morning, I took it down from the wall and held it as I walked through my house and prayed. Then, I pulled it from its sheath and began to pray specifically for my family.
I felt so good in my hands.
Familiar.
Powerful.
Yes, I know some of you may think I’m wack-a-doo.
… I’m actually okay with that.
Because you see, this gift has profoundly effected me and my identity in Christ. It’s a visible reminder of who I am.
And honestly, sometimes we need a reminder.
The Enemy – the world – works long and hard to convince us we are only valuable… IF and WHEN.
… But that’s a lie.
God tells us we’re valuable… BECAUSE. Because He fearfully and wonderfully created us in Jesus’ image.
Period.
Friends… how has God fashioned you?
- What gets your blood pumping?
- How is He asking YOU to bring the Kingdom to earth?
- Where is God opening doors for you to be a light to this dark world?
Listen… YOU have a job that your Heavenly Father created just for you.
Yes, you.
Ephesians 2:10 confirms it. “God has made us what we are. He has created us in Christ Jesus to live lives filled with good works that he has prepared for us to do.”
Simply put: God fashioned you for a Heavenly function.
So, what is it?
Some of you may be struggling to know what those good works are.
… Ask God to show you.
You might feel unworthy of a calling.
… That’s the Enemy’s voice.
Others might be afraid to put yourself out there.
… In all due respect, stop it.
God doesn’t call the equipped – He equips the called.
The world needs what you have.
They need your good works.
They need Jesus.
REALITY CHECK: God fashioned YOU for a Heavenly function. What is it?

Carey, I feel very honored to have heard about your Sword in person on the phone this morning! I could hear your voice in the words as I was reading this blog. If you were meant to have written this blog today for the sole purpose of God speaking to me through it, then your work is done today Sister!! “God doesn’t call the equipped – He equips the called” – yes, every person we come eyeball to eyeball with needs Jesus, and we are the carrier’s of His name and the way He choses to bring His light into the world!
