While traveling home from a fabulous, inspiring, God-filled, information-packed weekend at the She Speaks conference in North Carolina… I discovered something beautiful.
Word Mole.
It’s a newly discovered game on my BlackBerry that rewards me every time I find a word in a mix of letters. Kind of a seek-n-find, if you will.
Whenever I had the chance, I played the game. It made the time… fly. Literally. I was in the clouds. Literally. (Ok, ok fine. I’ll stop… :))
What I found, however, is that Word Mole put a big drain on my phone’s battery. It didn’t take long before it was on “red.” What was a girl to do?
- It would have made the most sense to turn off my phone and save what was left of the battery so I could call my family who I hadn’t seen in 4 days.
- It would have made sense to look over my notes from the conference and clarify anything that made sense now… but wouldn’t after a few days.
- It would have made sense to have prayed or listened to what God had for me.
But I continued to entertain myself until the battery died.
Funny. I tend to do that in my spiritual life as well. I would guess you do, too.
Our “spiritual batteries” stay charged when we are plugged into God, but when we allow the distractions of life to consume us… we find ourselves on “red.”
Entertainment and distractions in and of themselves are not bad! It’s nice to have some down-time. But we get into trouble when they become the main event. When we give more of our time and energy to them… and then find ourselves too tired to read the Bible or too busy to attend church… we miss the chance to get “juiced” up by our divine outlet.
Check your battery level. Is your red light blinking at you? Are you worn out?
Plug back into God. He’s the only life-sustaining power source we’ve got.
