The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. (John 1:14a)
When we think of Christmas we tend to picture Jesus in the manger. A meek and mild infant who would grow into the Savior we read about in the gospels.
However, let’s step back a moment and look at the big picture.
God created us with a plan in mind. After Adam and Eve sinned in the garden, God brought forth the many leaders we read about in the Old Testament (Moses, Abraham, Daniel, etc.) to guide people on how to live lives pleasing to God.
He gave the Ten Commandments as well as rule after rule on how people should live. In addition, He also promised that one day the rules would no longer be necessary because He would provide a Savior, the Messiah.
On that day, long ago, when Jesus took on human form it was the fulfillment of God’s promises. It was, essentially, God starting a new plan from scratch – one that would grant us:
- forgiveness of our sins.
- freedom from the rules and regulations of the Old Testament.
- a personal relationship with God.
Do you need to start from scratch this Christmas?
- Maybe your business needs a new plan.
- Maybe your marriage needs some attention.
- Maybe your relationship with God isn’t what it used to be.
Whatever the case, God understands and He’s waiting to help you start anew.
Dear Heavenly Father, please open my eyes today to any area in my life that needs a fresh start. Guide me as I walk this new path.
