“They say that nobody is perfect. Then they tell you practice makes perfect. I wish they’d make up their minds.” (Wilt Chamberlain)
Ain’t that the truth.
The world is fickle. It tells you to work hard for recognition… but then changes it’s mind all the time. The world continues to expect more and more of us, so we push ourselves to be better.
We want to be perfect.
Yuck.
Worst part? We end up doing the same thing to our kids. We expect more than we should. Our unrealistic expectations of their performance at school, in sports, of spirituality, etc. rages out of control.
Our children end up discouraged, discontent and disillusioned.
Are you teaching your kids to be perfect?
Grab your coffee and come see me at CWAHM where I am talking about the problem with trying to raise perfect kids.
Sometimes we do it without even realizing it.
And it’s dangerous.
Come visit me and I’ll tell you why.
By the way, Wayne starts his new job tomorrow. We finally get to exhale… God is so faithful.
Have a perfect fulfilling week!

Great writing – I can always use this reminder – for myself – for my family! I am not defined by the world – and neither are my kids! Thanks friend!

Amanda, good lesson for us to remember so we can pass on to our kids. We are not defined by the world. And oh, I am so glad!

Hey Carey, this is a tough subject because so many times we blur perfection with desiring what is best! Oh as mothers we so want what is best! It is my hope as a mom that my kids make as many mistakes while living under my roof as possible, then I can help them find their way out! 🙂 Doesn’t that sound terrible!? God called us to perfection, but that word didn’t mean without flaw, it actually means to be complete! I hope to give my children enough wisdom, grace, and guidance to feel complete when it’s time for them to fly the nest! Awesome post keep up the good work!

Beth, so true! We can so easily blur perfection with desiring to do what is best! True story! It’s so essential we parent with God in the lead… rather than the world. Amen!

Oh Carey, LOVE this post (and the Wilt quote). Thankfully I have learned to receive and extend grace. As a result my expectations of my kids no longer include perfection. It is so freeing!

Shannon, what a beautiful freedom!
