What are you going to do when life come flying at you?
How will you respond when you are bombarded with challenges and struggles and hopelessness?
What will you do when the Enemy’s attack hits you from every angle?
You persevere.
The other day, I grabbed my bike for an afternoon ride. It was a glorious fall day and I was aching to get out in it. I wanted to spend some time breathing in the crisp air. To relish alone time with God and nature.
I turned onto a lone road. No houses were built there yet so it was quiet and tranquil. It was going to be a peaceful ride through unpopulated open space.
But there were grasshoppers.
Everywhere.
All over the road.
I. Hate. Grasshoppers.
My love of animals does not include insects. And grasshoppers are one of the worst because they jump… with no warning… in unpredictable directions.
And they did.
As I came barreling down the road blinded to what lay before me, they began jumping all around my bike. Tons of them.
I began squealing in fear of what all was flying at me. I squinted my eyes to shield them from the view. I swerved left and right trying to avoid more coming at me.
Some hit me. Some hit my bike. Some were crushed under my tires.
But I kept going.
I guess I could have stopped and walked slowly to try and avoid them. Maybe I could have turned around and gone back.
But, I knew that once I got through this swarm… the road would take me to a gorgeous view of the mountains. And I wanted to get to my destination because God always meets me there.
I needed to persevere.
Sisters, life comes at us the same way.
We can be doing our thang, minding our own business, enjoying our family, feeling good… and then things start flying at us.
- health issues
- financial stresses
- marriage struggles
- kid concerns
- job pressures
What will you do?
When those life storms come flying at you from all sides, will you keep peddling forward in His strength even when you are squealing with fear… or will you sit on the curb and cry.
You get to choose.
Proverbs 24:10 in the Message says “If you fall to pieces in a crisis, there wasn’t much to you in the first place.”
Pretty. Simple.
We cannot afford to let the Enemy knock us off the road. We have to resolve now that when life begins to fly all around us, we keeping looking ahead and plow through to the other side.
Sure we’ll sustain some damage along the way. We may end up with some cuts and bruises, too. But when we trust our God and show great perseverence, we will get to the other side.
And who knows, we may even leave a few smashed grasshoppers along the way.

Enjoyed this visual!!! Really does help when we know they are coming and to determine before hand how we are going to respond!
careyscotttalks says
Jeanelle… predetermining our response is huge. So is firming up our belief system. Right on, sister!

This is so good Carey. Moving to Kansas recently I have also had a lot of things flying at me, not to mention huge bugs, snakes and other creatures. I love the Message version of Proverbs 24:10, priceless. I needed this.God is faithful.
careyscotttalks says
Susie… I know! The Message version of that is powerful. Ouch powerful, actually. And you are so spot on… God IS faithful!

This makes me smile, and kinda laugh. It’s such a perfect illustration of our choice to plow thru or sit on the side of life and cry. awesome. Thanks Carey.
