In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven. (Matthew 5:16 NIV)

I had coffee the other day with one of my closest friends. While we don’t connect often, our hearts are knit together in Christ and I just adore her.
One of my favorite things about this friend is that she’s one of the most intentional mothers I’ve ever met.
Not a perfect mom… but a purposeful one.
To be honest, she’s actually that way in all areas of her world. She loves to bless others through her creativity… her cooking… and her compassionate heart.
Oh, she encourages me!
In our time together, she shared stories of three different people in her circle that had recently experienced some profound “come-to-Jesus” moments.
With tears in her eyes, she told me what God was doing in each of their lives. She was celebrating that they were beginning to get it.
But she was missing something…
She was missing her role in each scenario.
I pointed out that each person was getting it in part because she continued to model it… speak it… pray it… hope it. God was using her to play a vital role in each person’s journey.
Humbling.
Sisters, I think sometimes we don’t realize we play a part in the stories of others.
We believe that for God to really use us, we have to:
- Speak to audiences
- Write for a website
- Attend seminary
- Teach a Bible study
- Lead a small group
That’s a lie.
By just walking out our faith, we influence the circles we run in right now.
The way we handle conflict at work reveals our value system.
The words and tone we use with our kids exposes our authenticity.
The forgiveness we extend to our husbands shows the condition of our heart.
The grace we offer our friends unveils our compassion.
And all these things speak to the power of Christ in our lives, because without His transforming power… we can be a nasty people.
Our words and our actions speak loudly.
You see… It all matters.
- When we offer to pray for someone… it matters.
- When we bring a meal to a sick friend… it matters.
- When we pass along a book that moved us… it matters.
- When we encourage another in a note… it matters.
- When we mention Jesus at strategic moments… it matters.
God uses it all in His relentless pursuit of the hearts of His children.
Don’t think for a moment you play a small role in the Kingdom.
God uses us to reveal Him.
And when we are intentional in speaking life and showing love, our words and actions point others to Jesus.
I’ve heard it said that when we walk into the gates of Heaven, all the people that we influenced to follow Jesus will be there to greet us.
How gracious of God would that be!
Sisters, you matter.
You make a difference. God uses you whether you realize it or not.
So love others well. Treat strangers with kindness. Speak life whenever possible. Point others to their Creator. Walk in His boldness.
Because… it all matters.

Carey, this is so vitally true. God has called each of us to make a difference and follow hard after Him right here right now without a stage, a microphone or a book contract. Thanks for the encouragement!
