In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven. (Matthew 5:16 NIV)
I had coffee the other day with one of my closest friends. You know what I love about her? She lives an intentional life.
Not a perfect one… but a purposeful one.
She shared stories of three different people in her circle that had recently experienced some profound “come-to-Jesus” moments.
With tears in her eyes, she told me what God was doing in each of their lives. She was excited these friends were beginning to give God the credit for the good things happening.
But she was missing something…
She was missing the role she played in their stories.
I reminded her that each person was seeing God in their circumstances… because she continued to point it out.
She modeled trust in her own life.
She spoke about God often.
She prayed for their eyes to be opened to the truth.
She’d held out hope for her friend’s hearts to connect with His.
And over coffee, my friend realized she’d been playing a vital role in each person’s faith-building journey.
God was using her to reveal Him.
Humbling.
Sisters, sometimes we don’t recognize when God is using US to lead others to Him.
By just walking out our faith… stumbles, fumbles and all… we influence those around us.
The way we handle conflict at work reveals our value system.
The words and tone we use with our kids exposes our authenticity.
The forgiveness we extend to our husbands shows the condition of our heart.
The grace we offer our friends unveils our compassion.
And all these things speak to the power of Christ in our lives.
Others can see it.
Our words and our actions speak loud and clear.
You see… It all matters.
- When we offer to pray for someone in the moment… it matters.
- When we bring a meal to a sick friend… it matters.
- When we pass along a faith-building book that moved us… it matters.
- When we encourage another in a note… it matters.
- When we radically trust God in hard time rather than fall apart… it matters.
God uses it all in His relentless pursuit of the hearts of His children.
Don’t think for a moment you play a small role in the Kingdom.
God uses YOU to reveal HIM.
And when we’re intentionally speaking out God’s goodness and treating others with love, our words and actions will point to Him.
I’ve heard it said that when we walk into the gates of Heaven, all the people that we influenced to follow Jesus will be there to greet us.
How gracious of God would that be!
Sisters, you matter.
You make a difference. God uses you whether you realize it or not.
So love others well. Treat strangers with kindness. Speak life whenever possible. Point others to their Creator. Walk in His boldness.
Because… it all matters.

It’s so easy to bypass the small things. Thanks for the insight today – whenever we talk about Christ or display Christ in our actions – we are revealing HIM!!! Love that!!

Jeanelle… yes, so easy to let those “small” things go by. But… it ALL matters! 🙂

It’s true, it’s true, it’s true! I love your post Carey! As we intentionally walk with Jesus, He uses us to bless, encourage and reveal Himself to those in our path.
