Those times when someone says something hurtful, something completely unexpected, and their words pierce deep places in our soul.
And for some reason, we choose to adopt the way they see us.
We forget who God says we are… we dismiss the affirmations of friends and family… we let go of our confidence…
… and decide we aren’t as valuable as we thought we were.
My abuser changed my thinking that way.
When he spoke these words into my 4-year-old heart – “You are bad. You are dirty. And you’ll never be worth anything.” – I believed him. And I’ve lived my life trying to prove him wrong, yet stuck in a tangle of unworthiness that kept me knotted up in those words.
Truth is… I just wanted to be loved.
With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, the month of love can be a huge trigger for those “you’re not good enough” messages.
And who needs another reminder that we aren’t worth the love and adoration of another?
But what if we looked at it differently?
